Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) – Hand-Poured 100% Soy Wax Candles
1. What makes soy wax better than other types of wax?
Soy wax is a natural, renewable resource derived from soybeans. It burns cleaner and longer than paraffin wax, producing minimal soot and no harmful toxins. It’s also biodegradable and environmentally friendly.
2. Why does my soy candle have a rough or bumpy top after burning?
This is a natural characteristic of 100% soy wax and does not affect the performance of the candle. It occurs due to the cooling process and indicates that no additives or paraffin wax have been used.
3. How long should I burn my soy candle for the first time?
The first burn is crucial. Allow the candle to burn until the melted wax reaches the edges of the container (usually 2-4 hours). This prevents tunneling and ensures an even burn for future use.
4. Why does my soy candle look frosted or have white patches?
Frosting is a natural occurrence in pure soy wax due to temperature changes. It is purely cosmetic and does not affect the quality or performance of the candle.
5. How do I prevent my soy candle from tunneling?
Always burn your candle long enough to allow the wax to melt evenly across the surface. Avoid short burns, as they can create a memory ring that causes tunneling.
6. Why is my candle’s wick mushrooming?
A mushroom-shaped wick tip occurs when the wick is too long or consuming too much wax. Trim your wick to about 1/4 inch before each burn to prevent excessive carbon buildup.
7. Why does my soy candle burn unevenly or produce smoke?
This can happen if the wick is too long. Always trim the wick to 1/4 inch before lighting to ensure a clean and even burn. Also, burn your candle in a draft-free area.
8. Are soy candles safe for people with allergies or sensitivities?
Yes! Soy wax is free from toxins, carcinogens, and pollutants, making it a great option for individuals with allergies or asthma. However, be mindful of fragrance oils, as some individuals may be sensitive to certain scents.
9. Can I reuse the candle jar once my soy candle is finished?
Absolutely! To clean out the remaining wax, place the jar in the freezer for a few hours, then pop out the hardened wax. You can wash the jar with warm, soapy water and repurpose it for storage, plants, or another candle.
10. How should I store my soy candles?
Store soy candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Exposure to extreme temperatures may cause sweating or discoloration, but this won’t affect the candle’s performance.
11. Do soy candles expire?
Soy candles do not expire, but their fragrance may fade over time. For the best scent throw, use your candle within 12-18 months of purchase.
12. Are your soy candles vegan and cruelty-free?
Yes! Our candles are made from 100% soy wax and high-quality, phthalate-free fragrance oils. We do not use any animal-derived ingredients, and our products are never tested on animals.
13. Can I burn my soy candle all the way to the bottom?
It’s best to stop burning your candle when about 1/2 inch of wax remains. Burning it beyond this point can overheat the jar and potentially cause it to crack.
14. What should I do if my candle’s scent isn’t strong enough?
Soy wax has a more subtle scent throw compared to paraffin. To maximize fragrance, burn your candle in an appropriate-sized room, ensure proper curing time (if applicable), and keep doors and windows closed while burning.
15. Do you offer custom scents or personalized candles?
